This weekend, I saw the Minions movie — one of the wildest, strangest, funniest rides of the summer. This prequel to Despicable Me was sold-out, and the adults were laughing as hard as the kids. I’m a definite fan of the Minions; in fact, sometimes, I think maybe I’m a minion myself (I’m currently feeling very Bob-like)
I’m especially interested in telling you about this movie because the Minions are bringing High Art to YOU! I’m an art historical novelist, so I love anything that makes art relatable to regular people. Not only does Michelangelo’s David make a cameo in the movie, but in Los Angeles (at least), the Minions are EVERYWHERE — on bus stops and billboards — posing as some of the world’s greatest paintings. (Do you know how happy it makes me that a Hollywood studio is using Fine Art to sell a movie?)
So to celebrate this movie masterpiece, here’s some Art of the Minions.
May it inspire you to go see a Van Gogh, a Munch, OR a Minion!
