It’s been a little over four months since I landed my publishing deal and a lot of people are asking:
“HEY! What’s HAPPENING?”
So, I thought I’d give you a little update:
1: This summer, my editor (Lilly Golden) and I are working on edits to my manuscript, so she can approve it for printing. She hopes to have galley proofs (preliminary versions of the published book that go out to reviewers, some PR people, proofreaders, etc) printed by the end of this year, so we have plenty of time to go out for blurbs and publicity.
2: My brand manager and I are currently building my PR/marketing/social media platform. Every writer knows (or should know) that selling books is ultimately UP TO THE AUTHOR. Sure, my publishing house will sell to bookstores and set up events and plan book tour and land media hits, but the reality is a publisher only goes so far. The rest is up to me. Thankfully, after years of working as a member of the national media, I know a few people and a little something about what the press likes in a story, so I consider myself lucky on this front.
3: I am writing my NEXT novel. Like Oil and Marble, this new book is also about the creation of art during the Italian Renaissance. It centers around one of the most fascinating women of the period (at least I think so). Novelling (yes, I made up my own verb for it) takes up much of my time.
4: I am also writing a lot about a topic that is very important to me: making art exciting and relatable to the general public. This blog has given me a wonderful outlet for thoughts on that topic — so I plan on doing much more of it! I hope to continue making art accessible to YOU (through my novels and other avenues) for the rest of my days…
So, yeah, that’s what’s been happening with me. Now, I’m off to write the next chapter…
